News Updates...
Dec

The site and date for the 2011 PITS Awards Banquet have been set - it'll be at the Cattlemen's off Hiway 50 in Rancho Cordova, on January 28th.

If you didn't receive Banquet flyer / sign-up sheet in your snail mail, please click here, print it, then complete the form at the bottom and send it in. If you earned an Annual Award for 2011, please plan to attend the Banquet (or make arrangements for someone to pick up your award). The award winners will be posted here, soon.

The unofficial, make-up school for checkers, organizers, and riders went very well at Prairie City SVRA. Although not an official event, over 30 PITS members showed-up and learned more about the various aspects of trials. It was a great experience for all attendees, who are now more confident about their abilities to both ride trials, as well as, how to fill the absolutely essential volunteer positions of organizer and checker.
Paul Master has the 2012 Event Calendar on the run. As soon as it's finalized, it'll be posted here. Many Kudos to Paul for taking on the 2012 calendar task. (It's one of the more thankless PITS jobs. It's a very time consuming excersize in "herding cats." Way to go Paul!)
The PITS Handbook for 2012 is about one draft away from being final. Sherwood Gibson started updating the PITS Rules then he grabbged the bull by the horms and started updating the PITS Handbook. He's gotten support from Paul Master, but not much from the rest of us. (This is another "thankless" job, but oh so necessary.)

Well, the Work Party/Trials School scheduled for the PITS Property on Nov 5th got snowed-out. There should be no snow at Prairie City SVRA on Saturday, December 10th. So, try to make it out for an unofficial, trials-folk get together. This is an unofficial flash-mob kinda thing. Hopefully there will be a big enough turnout for some mentoring for those who'd like to know more about checking & organizing, as well as, riding trials.
You may have noticed a lack of attention to the webpage the past several months. Ol' Jaydub ripped a butt muscle this summer (while limping from an injured knee). He hasn't been able to sit for more than a few minutes at a time (enough for a game of solitaire) before the muscle either starts aching or burning.

After recent storms the PITS Property received a light dusting of snow. The snow is melting fast and all looks good for the Granite Trial Saturday and Sunday. It will be a fun moderate event both day's. Please come and support our hard working organizers and your PITS club. Hope to see you there. Thank you for your support

Dick Wingate sent us an email regarding his experience at the Geritol Trial. He crashed hard in Section 3 and really did a number on his ankle. At least he's now on the mend (hooray for modern medical technology).

We got a note from Guy Houck - There will be a Carnegie Appreciation Day. It'll be Sunday, Oct. 23, the next Sunday after the Prairie City Appreciation Day. They are celebrating new trials facilities at Carnegie, too.

Believe it or not, the Schedule has been updated. Now we'll try to get the Weekend Calendar updated before the year's over.
A belated note: Harry Oswald won the "A" Main at the recent Enduro Cross at Prairie City. This is the event where last year he ripped a knee ligament, and had to watch while Cody Webb took first in the A Main. It looks like all of Harry's training and attempting to eat good stuff is paying-off. He's really gotten into good shape. He never faded; he rode all laps fast, all the way through the checkered flag in the Main. Congrats Harry!

October is just about here. It offers the 1st ever Boreal Ridge Trial on the 1st & 2nd of October. Paul Master and Filip Roos are in charge of the VB trial on Saturday, while Steve Monighan & Dwayne Reed are organizing the Class A trial on Sunday (see flyer). Paul and the gang did a great job by finding another High Sierra venue. And, it was done on very short notice. Way to go guys! And a big shout-out to the folks at Boreal, for hosting our 2011 High Sierra event.

A week later will be at the PITS Property with the Granite Trial. It'll be the last PITS trial for 2011 (see flyer). It's at 5,300', which is about 2,000' lower in elevation than Boreal/Donner. The Vintage trial on Sat is being organized by Sherwood Gibson, Rich Kotalik, and Rick Wolff. On Sunday, Rick is teaming up with Scott McKay for the Class A (What does Rick do in his spare time? He rides AHRMA Moto-X and trials - he's a busy guy!)
(Note - we do hope to get the schedule updated before the year is over.)

Prairie City Appreciation Day is the next Sunday after the Granite Trial (October 16). The Park entry fee is being waved all day. You can come out and ride the Park, and join-in the trials demo at 11:00.

The new 4X4 obstacle area has now been open for several weeks and will be used to for 4X4 and trials demonstrations. There are MANY new rocks and other things there to challange jeeps, rock crawlers and trials bikes.

PITS riders have been invited to participate again this year. We will be the entertainment from 11:00 am to 11:30 am. It's just the single half hour, rather than multiple sessions like last year. The more trials riders the merrier. The new obstacles will provide challenges for 2-line riders all the way to expert riders. Also, the 4X4 guys will be using the same area for their demo (just not at the same time). Come check out the 4-wheelers and get in some great trials practice. There will be booths and maybe food. We'll letcha know.

We knew the Donner Trial wasn't gonna be at DSR - now we know that it also won't be on the 1st weekend of Sept. It might be happenin' at another High Sierra ski area, and it might be happenin' in early October. Paul Master has been working like beaver to make it happen, so stay tuned.

Dave Pickett is recovering from coronary bypass surgery. Dave is the District 36 AMA representative, and for years has been a tireless lobbying force at the State Capitol. Dave represents all motorcycle riders, especialy dirt riders with land closure issues. Maintain good thoughts for him; we wish him a speedy recovery.
We've finally gotten our pdf issues resolved and have the Geritol Trials results posted.

At the Aug PITS meeting, the Board, as urged on and spearheaded by Sherwood Gibson, is working on a set of FAQs for the web page. (Kicking and screaming, we're being dragged into the 21st Century - Way to go Sherwood!) Hopefully, it will morph into semi-continually updated file with real answers to real questions. So, if you have specific questions, send 'em to us. We'll provide answers to the most common questions, so you can find answers from home, even while wearing nothing but your skivvies.

We also discussed two new Fall activities; organizer and checker training school(s), possibly at Prairie City, plus a Work Party/Trials School at PITS Property. We'll letcha know when we have specific dates.

The next PITS event is the Bear Valley Trial, scheduled for Sept. 17th & 18th (see flyer). Bear Valley is an awesome place to ride, so don't miss it. With the Strawberry Trial, Bear Valley Trial and possibly another ski area trial in October, we'll have had 3 events in the High Sierras this year. If the PITS Property, at 5,300', is considered the "High" Sierras, then we'll have had 7 trials in the High Sierras this year. Far out! (To quote John Denver.)
